When Yoel Romero made astounding revelation about why Dricus du Plessis would struggle against Khamzat Chimaev: "Olympic royalty athlete"

Former UFC middleweight title challenger, Yoel Romero recently appeared in an episode of The Overdogs Podcast and said he believes only an "Olympic royalty athlete" can stop Khamzat Chimaev's wrestling.

Per Romero, Dricus du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev would be a great fight for the MMA fans. He said that he believes Du Plessis has amazing knockout power but stopping Chimaev's wrestling, needs Olympic-level ability:

"He just beat Whittaker, convincingly. A good fight for the fans of MMA would be Du Plessis vs. Chimaev. Du Plessis has a demolishing hit but this tackle Chimaev is throwing, there is no one who can defend it. That tackle, only an Olympic royalty athlete can defend. We could see for the first time, a Russian UFC champion at 185 lbs."

UFC Hall of Famer wants to see Khamzat Chimaev vs. Bo Nickal in 2025

In a recent episode of the Good Guy/Bad Guy podcast, UFC hall of famer Chael Sonnen named the fights he wanted to see in 2025, including Khamzat Chimaev vs. Bo Nickal.

Both Chimaev and Nickal are known for their wrestling and grappling skills. While Nickal is still unranked, Chimaev is ranked No. 3 in the middleweight rankings. The fight seems highly unlikely to happen at this moment, as it is well known that 'Borz' is waiting for a title shot.

The middleweight title will be up for grabs at UFC 312 where the champion, Dricus du Plessis will take on Sean Strickland in a rematch. The winner of the fight will likely face Chimaev next but Sonnen believes the Sweden native should fight Nickal rather than waiting for a title shot. 'The People's Champ' said:

"I've got to get Bo Nickal and Chimaev I can't keep these guys separated forever. You know we're told that we don't get to see this fight because of the discrepancy in the rankings. Now if Chimaev has put himself in a spot to go and fight for a title I'll keep the name out of my mouth but those two have been aligned from the jump street."

Sonnen added:

"We just saw the Japanese fellow that was able to come in and fight for a title who had no ranking whatsoever that we don't have to adhere to the rankings as a way to avoid fights. Chimaev's undefeated, Bo's undefeated, Chimaev's good with the wrestling, Bo's good with the wrestling, Chimaev's got a bunch of fan that's up and coming as a future title contender, check and check for Bo. I don't know why are we keeping them apart when we got guys under contract, make the fight.”
