Paul, who was much bigger and younger, tried to employ his attributes and assumed the role of the aggressor from the get-go and fought a high-paced fight. However, his high-volume attack failed to breach Mayweather's legendary defense. Barring a few stray shots, 'Maverick' could not accumulate strikes through the entirety of eight rounds.

Meanwhile, Mayweather remained passive despite the openings presented by Paul's wild and looping shots. However, he effectively used his striking to stay ahead in the tally. Paul's repeated attempts to clinch did not help the optics either. Fans did not seem to enjoy the weird fight and the boos got louder as the fight progressed.

Many experts stated that the contest could have been a lot more entertaining had Mayweather committed to offense a little more.
