Who is David Morrell Jr.'s girlfriend Isis Rodriguez?

David Morrell Jr. was born in Santa Clara, Cuba in January 1998 to Rafael Morrell and Betty Gutierrez. He competed under the name Osvary Morrell in the amateur boxing realm, representing his native Cuba.

In 2023, The Minnesota Star Tribune detailed the boxer's transformation from Osvary to David Morrell Jr. In June 2018, father Rafael Morrell Sr., older son Rafael Morrell Jr., and Osvary Morrell attempted to enter Mexico by sea. The brothers got to Mexico, but Rafael Sr., who used to be a boxer, fell off the boat. The authorities detained Rafael Sr., with his release transpiring 20 days later.

Eventually, Osvary legally immigrated from Mexico to the U.S. He trained in Minneapolis and notably signed with the Luis DeCubas Sr.-helmed Warriors Boxing in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Incidentally, Isis Rodriguez was a financial manager at Motorwerks in Minneapolis' Twin Cities region, and she later held a job in West Palm Beach. There, she met Osvary, who was competing under the name David Morrell Jr., early in his pro boxing career.

Their son, Gabriel, was born in 2023. The couple owns a home in Florida. Per the 2023 report, Morrell started training under Ronnie Shields in Houston, Texas a couple of years prior. Isis was helped by Morrell's parents to look after her child.

Isis Rodriguez shed light on a hilarious element in their relationship. She was asked about the Morrell family and why her partner goes by the name David Morrell Jr. It was highlighted that his father is Rafael Morrell Sr. and his older brother is Rafael Morrell Jr.

It's well known that a number of prominent professional boxers were named after their fathers and used the suffix 'Jr.' Lightheartedly implying that there was no David Morrell Sr. and that it was likely a boxing marketing strategy, Isis affirmed that it's how her partner went from being amateur boxer Osvary Morrell in Cuba to professional boxer David Morrell Jr. in America:

"There isn't one. I always tell him, 'You're a fake Junior.' It's part of the promotion in boxing, I guess."

Isis Rodriguez herself is the daughter of immigrants who came to the U.S. from Honduras. She was born and grew up in Shakopee, Minnesota.

Apparently, her parents moved back to Honduras, while she resides in the U.S. Furthermore, Luis DeCubas Sr. labeled Isis as "great" and "smart." DeCubas also deemed her to be the best thing that ever happened to David Morrell Jr.
