Kamaru Usman has not competed since UFC 294 when he suffered a majority decision loss to Khamzat Chimaev after moving up a weight class to accept the bout on short notice. The former welterweight champion has been engaged in a back-and-forth with Belal Muhammad, who captured the title with a unanimous decision victory against Leon Edwards at UFC 304.
Speaking on his podcast, Pound 4 Pound, co-host Henry Cejudo claimed becoming a champion has made 'Remember the Name' cocky leading 'The Nigerian Nightmare' to quote Conor McGregor:
"Imagine how I feel. I'm like, 'who the f**k is this guy, who the f**k is that guy?' I didn't know who this guy was a couple years ago, or last year. I didn't hear his name. I don't even remember his name... He paid for someone to do a diss song... That song was as corny as can be. Looking at a golden belt? I have six of them in the room next door. Yeah, I can look at belts all day and if I want his belt, I'm going to take his belt."
Usman continued:

"I want the fight, but when you got him saying, 'I'm going to sit down and you guys fight and then I'll fight the winner', that's not a recipe for how you make money so it is what it is. But at some point, he's going to have to step in there with me and we're going to settle it. Keep dropping corny, weak diss tracks... Listen, I am scared of no one. On less than nine days notice, I flew to the other side of the world to fight supposedly the scariest guy."

Muhammad has engaged in trash talk with both Usman and Shavkat Rakhmonov, suggesting that the two should fight one another for the opportunity to challenge for his belt. It is unlikely that the UFC would go that route, however, with one of the two contenders expected to receive the next title shot.
Belal Muhammad claims he will dominate Kamaru Usman
Kamaru Usman and Belal Muhammad have continued to exchange words since the latter captured the welterweight title by defeating Leon Edwards at UFC 304. 'Remember the Name' recently shared how he believes a potential bout between the two would go. Speaking to Kacper Rosolowski and Denis Shkuratov of Submission Radio, he stated:
"Honestly, I think I dominate him. When people were asking me about the Leon fight and how I'm going to do it, 'he just fought Colby [Covington] and he fought Usman and he had a great camp for both of those guys'. I'm better than both of those guys. I'm better than both of those guys everywhere."

While it is unclear who Muhammad will face in his first title defense, it will likely come to either Usman or Shavkat Rakhmonov. A timeline for the next welterweight title bout also remains unclear as UFC 310 appears to be the only remaining pay-per-view card that could be an option in 2024.
