WBO female welterweight champion Sandy Ryan is one of the most skilled boxers of her generation. However, maintaining an undefeated record is one of the most difficult things to achieve in combat sports. As a result, most fighters have tasted defeat at some point in their professional careers.
Ryan (7-1-1) has looked invincible in most of her fights but she lost the '0' from the record relatively early in her career.
Who has Sandy Ryan lost to?
Sandy Ryan started her professional boxing career with a 3-0 (2 KO) record. She suffered the sole defeat of her professional boxing career against Erica Farias in her fourth professional boxing appearance on March 12, 2022, at the Nottingham Arena, England. Farias handed her a split decision loss in the 10-round boxing contest on the Leigh Wood vs. Michael Conlan undercard.

In the fight, Farias got going quickly and established a lead from the get-go. Despite being the taller fighter, Ryan struggled to keep the Argentine boxer off and got his with cleaner strikes. She tried to reverse the momentum in the middle rounds and caught Farias with a few good body shots and jabs.
However, it was not enough to slow Farias down. She ramped up the activity level in the later rounds, landing more meaningful strikes despite Ryan being the aggressor. After 10 rounds of action, Farias edged past the British boxer with a split decision (97-94, 93-97, 95-94) victory. The victor was deducted one point for headbutting Ryan.

Sandy Ryan avenged the loss in an immediate rematch
Sandy Ryan got the opportunity to avenge the loss when she was booked to rematch Erica Farias for the vacant WBC International super lightweight title on Aug. 6, 2022.
In the rematch, Ryan effectively used her length to establish her jab and keep Farias off her. Unlike the first fight, Farias could not land clean strikes as Ryan was defensively responsible and displayed better footwork.
The Argentine boxer found little success in closing the distance and most of her entries were intercepted with Ryan's jabs. As the rounds progressed, Ryan assumed the role of the aggressor and forced Farias to fight while going backward.
The technical fight went the distance and Ryan was declared the winner by unanimous decision (98-92, 96-94 X 2), becoming the WBC international super lightweight champion.
She won the WBO female welterweight title by defeating Marie Pier Houle in April 2023. At the time of his writing, Ryan has successfully defended the title two consecutive times.
