Who won the UFC fight last night (December 17, 2022)?

Sean Strickland took on Jared Cannonier in the main event of the last UFC card of 2022. The promotion closed off the year at its home in Las Vegas with an absolute banger of a main card which saw only the headliner and the co-headliner go the distance.

Cannonier and Strickland went toe-to-toe over a five rounds in a closely contested affair that must have been a nightmare for the judges to score.

While Cannonier edged out a split decision win, the scorecards did not fail to draw attention. In surprisingly polarizing scorecards, two of the judges scored the bout 49-46 in favor of Cannonier, while the third judge scored it 49-46 in favor of Strickland.

Strickland outlanded Cannonier 152 to 141 in terms of significant strikes as per the UFC's stats. However, 'The Killa Gorilla' was seemingly more precise, landing 45% of his shots, compared to Strickland's 38%. The fight certainly justified the odds, with both fighters going in as almost even underdogs.

The co-main event of the night featured surging lightweight Arman Tsarukyan and Damir Ismagulov. Represented by the same manager, Sayat Abdrakhmanov, the lightweight prospects decided to take on each other after being ducked by other fighters.

'Ahalkalakets' ended Ismagulov's undefeated UFC run, landing seven takedowns, amounting to 9:25 minutes of control time, to earn a comfortable decision win.

The card also saw two potential 'Knockout of the Year' contenders from Drew Dober and Alex Caceres. Dober shut the lights on veteran lightweight Bobby Green with a brutal left-hook in round 2.

Meanwhile, 'Bruce Leeroy' landed an unreal head kick on Julian Erosa whilst off balance after missing heavily with a punch.
