Rising women's bantamweight Aspen Ladd was fired from the UFC back in September last year. While in the UFC, Ladd attained a record of 4-3. While her record seems to be decent, her struggle with making weight is what led to her being cut from the UFC.

Aspen Ladd failed to make weight for the first time in 2017 when she came in at 137.8 pounds for her bout against Leslie Smith. As she missed weight by 1.8 pounds, the fight was canceled after Smith refused to fight at catchweight.

Ladd then went on to miss weight for her scheduled bout against Macy Chiasson in October 2021. This time around, she missed weight by one pound. In her defense, the bantamweight suggested that her menstruation cycle started just two days ago and made the weight cut miserable.

As a result, the bout was canceled. However, former UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate suggested that Ladd had cheated and was 139 pounds during her UFC Vegas 38 weigh-ins.

While criticizing Ladd on Twitter, Tate said:

"It’s one thing to miss weight, it’s another thing to try and cheat the scale and use every excuse in the book to not weigh in properly. Everyone saw you cheat and still came in a lb over. I bet you were every bit of 139."

In September last year, Aspen Ladd missed weight again for her scheduled bout against Sara McMann. This time around, she missed weight by two pounds leading to the bout being canceled.

Has Aspen Ladd retired after being fired from the UFC?

No, the 28-year-old did not retire from the UFC after being fired. Just under a month after being released from the UFC, Aspen Ladd signed with the PFL (Professional Fighters League).

It is worth noting that following her struggles with making weight in the bantamweight category, Ladd decided to move up in weight and compete in the featherweight division of the PFL. She made her debut in November 2022 against Julia Budd and won the bout via split decision.
