WWE CEO Nick Khan has shared his thoughts on why boxing has failed to become as successful as the UFC.

Boxing has been one of the most popular sports to exist till date, with some of the biggest names in the sporting world like Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, etc gracing the squared circle.

However, it has been quite evident that the sport has been on a steady decline over the past few decades. While there is still glitz and glamor surrounding the sport, it is not quite what it used to be.

Speaking about the same during a recent interview with The Volume, the CEO of WWE, Nick Khan suggested that people involved in the sport have failed to make the product available to the masses. While comparing it to UFC and WWE, he said:

"They went behind the paywall for almost everything. They went to HBO when HBO offered more money, when very few people had HBO. So, fewer eyeballs on their product. Especially with kids, if you're parents didn't subscribe to HBO you weren't watching the fights. So if you look at the steady decline of boxing, that's one of the big factors."

He added:

"If you look at boxing now and say, 'Wow, they could do a heck of a lot better job.' or if you look at how great of a job UFC did, how great of a job Vince and WWE did, it was always to make sure that the product was available to the masses."

Is UFC president Dana White working on starting a new boxing promotion?

Yes, Dana White is working on launching his own boxing promotion in the next few years.

It is worth noting that Dana White has been involved with boxing in the past. Back in 2017, the UFC president co-promoted the Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather bout. Interestingly, he even announced that he would be launching his own boxing promotion back then, but the idea didn't materialize.

However, according to Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal, Dana White is still keen to launch his boxing promotion and is set to do so in the next couple of years. He stated:

“.@DanaWhite is working to launch a major new boxing promotions company within the next 12-24 months, and he's also eyeing domestic + global expansion for @PowerSlapLeague and says @TheNotoriousMMA's UFC return should be this year + @ATTStadium is an option.”
