Several fans took to X to react to the video and asserted that the referee should've stopped the fight. They wrote:

"I respect Caio for not putting on more damage and locking in the submission because he probably knew he could have kept ground & pounding him but instead tried to go for the submission to get a tap out. The ref should have stopped that fight!"
"This is the image of retirement."
"Ref sentenced Cannonier to death in there."
"Should have stopped right there."
"That hit was really hard how did he keep on fighting."

With the win, Borralho improved his UFC record to 7-0 after competing twice on 'Dana White’s Contender Series' to secure his spot on the roster. He will most likely break into the top-10 of the 185-pound bracket and this victory solidifies his standing as a potential title challenger in the future.

As for Cannonier, the MMA Lab standout succumbed to a third loss in five octagon outings. He has lost two fights in 2024.
