Quentin Tarantino expressed frustration over intense online criticism after praising Joker: Folie à Deux during an appearance on episode #2240 of The Joe Rogan Experience. The acclaimed filmmaker revealed how a simple comment sparked a media frenzy and an outpouring of vitriol from fans.
Referring to his earlier interview on the Bret Easton Ellis podcast, the auteur said:
"I go on a show and I say that I like ‘Joker 2.’ Now there’s 150 articles on it. One person listens to the thing and writes an article about it and there’s 150 rip-off articles on that. And then you read the comments: ‘Quentin is a f**king asshole. That movie f**king sucks. He’s a f**king asshole for saying that."
Tarantino laughed off the backlash but criticized the absurdity of public outrage over personal taste:

"Why am I a f**king asshole? I liked the f**king movie! That makes me a f**king asshole?”
Tarantino previously described the $200 million production as a "masterpiece," praising director Todd Phillips for creating a meta experience.

Joe Rogan and Quentin Tarantino discussed cocaine use in the 1980s
Appearing in the same episode, Joe Rogan, Quentin Tarantino, and Roger Avary also discussed the rampant cocaine use that characterized the 1980s, particularly in the entertainment industry.
Rogan shared an eyebrow-raising anecdote about his time at Nick’s Comedy Stop in Boston, where performers were offered payment in either cocaine or cash:
"When I worked in Boston at Nick's Comedy Stop, they would offer to pay you in cocaine or cash. There were guys who just took the cocaine. Certain comics, they just wanted to get paid in coke. Yeah, wild times. You know, that's the 80s."
Tarantino revealed that he and his circle also indulged in cocaine during this period, gaining access they could have never afforded otherwise:
"That was actually even kind of an interesting situation cause it was also one of those things where I was actually really kind of proud of us 'cause we all kind of like, woo, we all kind of went nutty for a little bit with this kind of 'more access to coke' than we normally would have."
He added:
"More access than we] ever had. Because we can't afford that sh*t. So, we all went nuts for a little bit about it, and then we all kind of, 'Okay. Let's bring it together.'" [2:32:24]
