Why isn't Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk happening?

Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk is reportedly not happening due to complications over a potential rematch.

Over the last few months, the two heavyweight champions have been going back and forth. The pair even had a face-off in the ring following Fury's recent win over Derek Chisora last December. At the time, the two men and their camps stated that they were expecting to finalize a clash for the spring.

Instead, three months later, the fight was officially canceled. Earlier today, Usyk and his team confirmed that they were ending training camp and that the two sides were done talking. The news is especially disappointing considering the two champions confirmed to the WBA earlier this month that the fight was happening.

However, why isn't it happening? Well, the biggest issue holding the fight back from happening is reportedly the revenue split of a potential rematch. It's worth noting that the revenue split has held the fight back for a while now, as Fury refused to take anything less than a 70/30 split in his favor.

Oleksandr Usyk later agreed to that split, but Tyson Fury later had an issue with the immediate rematch clause. According to the Ukrainian's team, the latter was the one who requested the deal. At this stage, they weren't intending on taking out the clause.

Along with that, 'The Cat' had his own clause for the rematch. If he won the first fight, 'The Gypsy King' would accept the same revenue split he did for the second outing. Fury declined, and sadly, the fight won't be happening.

Frank Warren blasts Oleksandr Usyk over rematch clause

Tyson Fury's promoter, Frank Warren, has blasted Oleksandr Usyk.

'The Cat' agreed to a lopsided revenue split earlier this month, but was unable to budge off the clause in the contract. Furthermore, Usyk wanted the split to be massively in his favor for a potential rematch.

Frank Warren, the head of Queensbury Promotions, recently addressed the situation in an interview with TalkSport. There, the promoter hit back at Usyk and his team.

He stated that if the Ukrainian cared about money this much, he would accept the deal to face 'The Gypsy King'. In the interview, Warren stated:

“You know why they want the rematch clause? Because it’s two paydays. Where are they gonna earn the type of money they earn fighting Tyson twice? Not vs Filip Hrgovic, Joe Joyce or Daniel Dubois. That’s why they want it.”
