Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic is a fight that every MMA fan is asking for.
'Bones' has been out of the octagon for nearly three years, and Miocic has not fought since suffering defeat at the hands of Francis Ngannou in March last year. Reports suggest that a fight between the pair is being targeted for UFC 282 in December for the interim title.
This fight makes a lot of sense for both fighters. For Jon Jones, it is a way for him to establish himself as a title contender by taking out the #2 ranked heavyweight in the UFC. For Stipe Miocic, it is a chance to beat a man who many consider to be the greatest MMA fighter of all time. It would bring Miocic one step closer to a trilogy fight against Ngannou.

The UFC has been hinting at this fight for a while now, but the rumors have never come to fruition. Francis Ngannou is out of the picture for the time being since he is recovering from knee surgery. Thus the pair would fight for an interim title. UFC president Dana White has also hinted at this potential matchup a number of times, and is looking to bring back 'Bones' into the Octagon as soon as possible.
Jon Jones prefers to fight Stipe Miocic over 'one dimensional Francis Ngannou
Jon Jones looks set to return to the octagon despite spending nearly three years away from it. His last bout was a controversial win over Dominick Reyes in May 2020. Since then, he has been preparing his body for a move to the heavyweight division. He has been bulking up in a slow and controlled manner to get himself and his body used to fighting in the heaviest weight class in the UFC.
The UFC is in talks with the former light-heavyweight champion and are looking to set up a fight between himself and Stipe Miocic. Although Francis Ngannou is the first choice, the French-Cameroonian fighter is currently recovering from knee surgery. Earlier this year, he revealed that he prefers to fight Miocic over 'The Predator'.
“At this point I’m looking to fight Stipe, I think it proves a lot more. Fighting a fairly one-dimensional fighter fresh off of knee surgery. I don’t know, I believe beating Stipe says more at this point”
Hence, a potential interim title fight is being talked about between Jon Jones and Miocic, with the winner of the fight securing a title shot in 2023, as soon as Ngannou is ready to fight again.
