Wild firearms claim made on Joe Rogan's podcast about WWE backstage was far from false, argues The Undertaker: "It was the wild, wild west"

The Undertaker harked back to the firearms claim he'd made on the Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) podcast a few years ago, which elicited mixed reactions. The professional wrestling legend and WWE icon stated that his assertion was rooted in reality, reaffirming how performers back in the day carried weapons even to the locker rooms.

Since the UFC-WWE merger in 2023, the organizations come under the TKO Group Holdings umbrella. Many performers are fans of both the MMA and pro wrestling organizations. One such performer is The Undertaker, whose real name is Mark Calaway.

On JRE episode #1598 back in 2021, he addressed his portrayal of the mythical on-screen WWE character, The Undertaker, and much more. The retired WWE superstar notably highlighted the pro wrestling industry's evolution, going from a business that was rife with a dangerous backstage environment to one wherein professionals needn't worry as much about potential behind-the-scenes violence.

Certain fans questioned his claims about performers possessing weapons like firearms and knives in their bags in the locker rooms and the existence of a foreboding danger of deadly violence in the days of old.

Well, in a recent edition of his podcast, Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway, he hosted another veteran pro wrestling personality, Teddy Long. Among other topics, Long discussed how late pro wrestler and pro wrestling manager, Gary Hart, once supposedly utilized a knife to intimidate an independent wrestling promoter who hadn't paid them.

Calaway responded by citing that as another example that supported the claims he made on JRE in 2021:

"That is a little different, right? People, hey, let me tell you -- thank you for bringing that up. People called bullsh** on me when I went on Rogan and told back in the day that guys carried guns and knives in their bags. There was bullsh** called on me, like, 'How'd you go through TSA?' There wasn't a TSA back then. And we were in the car."
"I'm telling you, man. It was just a whole different ballgame back then. Dude, it was the wild, wild west. And I'm glad, I am so happy that the business has evolved to where it is now, so guys don't have to worry about that. But that's funny that you just brought up something -- you just didn't mess with people. I mean, there were fights, but you didn't," he added.

A look at The Undertaker and Joe Rogan's socio-political influence, the 'Deadman's' JRE remarks

Mark Calaway and UFC color commentator Joe Rogan were counted among the most influential public personalities who lent support to ex-POTUS and current President-elect Donald Trump for his 2024 re-election. Calaway retired from professional wrestling in 2020 but still makes sporadic appearances in the WWE.

Furthermore, speaking about the 'Deadman's' JRE remarks from 2021, he'd faced flak after suggesting that the new-generation professional wrestling product was "soft" and that he joined the business in an era where "men were men." One of The Undertaker's comments that generated considerable buzz among fans was as follows:

"I remember walking into my first real dressing room. And I saw some crusty f**king men. Right? Like, half of them had guns and knives in their bags, and you know, sh** got handled back then."
