Daniel Cormier recently pulled no punches in regards to his opinion on the UFC's entire light heavyweight roster. He admitted that any high-level wrestler should be chomping at the bit to compete in the division.

Alex Pereira is the current kingpin of 205 pounds, having won the vacant title with a win over Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295 in 2023. He then went on to defend the belt three times over the course of last year, including headlining the historic UFC 300 event.

Despite his dominance, however, 'Poatan' appears to have a clear disadvantage in the octagon that very few fighters have tried to take advantage of. Whilst the Brazilian is considered to be one of the best strikers in the organization due to his kickboxing background, he has no experience in wrestling outside of his MMA training.

According to Daniel Cormier though, it's not just Pereira. The UFC Hall of Famer recently discussed the light heavyweight division on his YouTube channel, where he took a look at the top 15 ranked fighters. 'DC' then couldn't help but notice that almost every ranked fighter at 205 pounds is predominantly a striker, leaving a space for a wrestler to come and take over the division. He said:

"When you look at these rankings and you're an NCAA wrestler right now that weighs in the 220-225 pound range, you start thinking 'Im going to MMA and fighting in the UFC'. A high level wrestler right now would seem to be able to feast on these matchups. The champ [Pereira], Prochazka, Jamahal, Rakic...Striker, striker, striker, striker...A great wrestler would eat 205 [pounds] right now."

Joe Rogan weighs in on Alex Pereira making Magomed Ankalaev 'wait' for a title shot

In episode #2249 of the Joe Rogan Experience (JRE), the UFC commentator weighed in on Alex Pereira appearing to make Magomed Ankalaev wait for a title opportunity.

As it stands, Ankalaev is currently the No.1-ranked light heavyweight and is expected to face the Brazilian next. While there has been no official confirmation of when their bout will take place, the Dagestani fighter has been trying to push the fight forward by trolling Pereira on social media over recent months.

According to Rogan, however, Ankalaev's decision to talk trash about Alex Pereira may have backfired. He said:

"Alex Pereira has challengers in the light heavyweight division especially Ankalaev... but he's been talking a lot of sh*t and Alex doesn't like that he talks sh*t, so he's like I'm going to make him wait."
