At 41 years old, Brazilian superstar Marcelo Garcia already has a wealth of experience competing in different competitions at the highest level, and his loaded resume backs this up.

Recently, Garcia shared a piece of advice with other athletes on how they can have more certainty in getting the results they want in competitions while still savoring that feeling of unpredictability.

The BJJ legend shared this during a recent appearance in the JitsCast for an interview, where he stated:

"Look, when we go compete, I feel like it's a little bit of a gamble that you don't know what's going to happen. But it's a calculated gamble that you can training more and you can have more odds in your favor. I feel like that at least. But that's what make me excited, to not know what's going to happen, like that makes it really fun for me."

Garcia is now on the tail-end of his preparation for his grand return to competition after a long sabbatical, as he takes on Japanese icon Masakazu Imanari in an openweight submission grappling match on Jan. 24 at ONE 170, which will take place inside the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

Marcelo Garcia reveals main reason why he signed with ONE Championship

Garcia signed with the largest martial arts organization in the final quarter of 2024 when he decided to return to competing professionally. ONE Championship's reach and constant promotion of submission grappling have been one of the main reasons he decided to take his act under the banner.

Add the fact that ONE Championship houses the biggest roster of athletes across various martial arts, and it was a no-brainer for Garcia to ink a deal with them. He explained this during the same interview with JitsCast by saying:

"Jiu-jitsu today, you have such a better place to show jiu-jitsu today. A better platform to compete. The fans are huge. Like the shows ONE are putting [on] today, like to be able to go there and show my jiu-jitsu, that's already enough to make me want to go compete now."
