BJJ superstar Mikey Musumeci is living proof that anyone can triumph over their obstacles if they work hard to overcome them.
The American standout gave an emotional response to an emotional question last Friday in Bangkok at ONE 167. After years of trying to get over all the criticism he received from both his rival, Gabriel Sousa and his critics, Musumeci finally belted out everything that had been building inside of him.
After defeating Sousa, the submission specialist spoke inside the microphone and announced:
"I competed with Gabriel three or four years ago, and I lost that match. So this match is to show everyone that if you have an obstacle, you f***ing go to do it, and you overcome it!"

On June 7, the reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion met his old rival at 145 pounds to prove to the world that their first match back in 2021 was nothing but a fluke.
Musumeci put his submission skills on full display in submitting Sousa with one of the most painful submissions in BJJ, the sneaky calf crusher, to silence his critics in one full sweep.

"I've gotten so much f***ing better" - 'Darth Rigatoni' Mikey Musumeci lives up to his moniker with devastating submission over Gabriel Sousa
Indeed, Mikey Musumeci's scintillating performance against Gabriel Sousa in Bangkok is the best we've seen thus far.
As Musumeci said in previous interviews, he barely goes through a serious training camp in preparation for his grappling matches.
But when he was told that he would face Sousa in a potential bantamweight scrap, Musumeci poured all his energy into getting into the best shape of his life, both physically and mentally.
"I've gotten so much f***ing better," he proudly told ONE. "Physically, technically, everything. I'm an athlete again."
