The fight between McGregor and Chandler has been planned since the two served as rival coaches for 'The Ultimate Fighter 31' last year. The two were slated to face each other in a welterweight contest at UFC 303, however, a toe injury sustained while training forced McGregor to withdraw himself from the bout.
In light of recent events, Chandler also responded on social media to White's confirmation that McGregor won't be making a comeback to competition this year, writing:
''Ah conor, the sport will move on and thrive without you. Put to bed. Laid to rest. Soon a distant memory. You’ve vastly overestimated your importance inside of this game for almost a decade. Godspeed.''
Chael Sonnen believes Conor McGregor is serious about his octagon return
Conor McGregor's potential comeback against Michael Chandler is still a topic of much speculation, but former middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen offered a fresh perspective on the matter by indicating that the Irishman may be more dedicated to the sport than most people realize.
In a recent episode of the Good Guy/ Bad Guy podcast, Sonnen said:
''Dana has been very clear in the last two weeks that Conor McGregor is not fighting this year. [Dana] said, ‘He's [McGregor] not fighting this year but he [McGregor] is blowing me up he does want to fight in December, we'll see what happens...I think the story of Conor has being a little bit mold in this way. I believe him, I believe that he wants to fight.''
