Dana White reveals how Merab Dvalishvili vs. Umar Nurmagomedov fight at UFC 311 got booked
In a recent social media post, Dana White confirmed that Merab Dvalishvili will take on Umar Nurmagomedov in a bantamweight title fight at UFC 311 in January. Dvalishvili and Nurmagomedov have notably been exchanging verbal jabs for the past few weeks.
Explaining that the two bantamweights finally decided to settle their beef in the cage, White recalled the 135-pound champion calling on him the night before the UFC 311 card to ask for the Nurmagomedov fight. He said:
"'Merab came into the office late last night, told us that he is tired of listening to Umar disrespect him and wanted to make this fight happen as soon as possible. We called Umar, he was sleeping in Dagestan. He said, 'hell yes, anywhere and anytime."
Dvalishvili is riding an impressive 11-fight win streak and is coming off a statement title victory over Sean O'Malley at UFC 306 in September. Meanwhile, Nurmagomedov is undefeated in his career, and last beat Cory Sandhagen at UFC Abu Dhabi in August.
