Former ONE strawweight kickboxing world title challenger Zhang Peimian has begun his route back to title contention after his bounce-back victory over Torepchi Dongak at ONE Fight Night 8 in March 2023 with a unanimous decision victory.

The 20-year-old Chinese wants to fast-track his way into another world title shot against former tormentor and now reigning ONE strawweight kickboxing world champion Jonathan Di Bella with another win against Rui Botelho in their upcoming clash at ONE Fight Night 16 on November 3.

Zhang and Botelho will trade strikes inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. Ahead of this crucial showdown, ‘The Fighting Rooster’ expressed his delight ahead of this fight because, according to him, it is an opportunity for him to showcase his improvement.

The Shengli Fight Club representative shared this excitement in his latest ONE Championship interview and said:

“I was so excited when I received the offer because [I am eager to fight again]. I’m preparing for the fight right now. I have been doing lots of training to improve myself.”

The Chinese top contender currently holds a 3-1 record under the world’s largest martial arts organization since cracking a roster spot with the promotion in 2022. He made an impressive debut in March 2022 at ONE: Lights Out by scoring a second-round TKO over Josh Tonna, before unanimously beating Aslanbek Zikreev at ONE 159 in July 2022 to set up the championship match with Di Bella.

Zhang’s route to ONE Championship was via the Road to ONE Tournament in 2021, where he was the last man standing in the four-man kickboxing competition.

Meanwhile, his Portuguese opponent is currently on a four-fight slide, receiving defeats at the hands of Superlek Kiatmoo9, Taiki Naito, Asahi Shinagawa, and Aslanbek Zikreev.

ONE Fight Night 16: Haggerty vs. Andrade on Prime Video will air live on US Primetime free of charge for existing Prime Video subscribers in North America.
