ONE CEO and Chairman Chatri Sityodtong revealed why he was surprised Chingiz Allazov beat Superbon at ONE Fight Night 6.

Two of the greatest kickboxers in the world collided on Friday, January 13, for the ONE featherweight kickboxing world title. With defending world champion Superbon Singha Maywnn being the favorite, no one expected to see the Thai superstar get knocked down twice before losing to the challenger by an overhand right in the second round.

Asked to share his thoughts about Allazov’s shocking finish, CEO Chatri Sityodtong told SCMP MMA:

“Of course I was very surprised that he knocked him out. But in the past, if you look at Superbon’s losses, it’s always from punches. That’s his one area of weakness. So I think Chingiz had a game plan of throwing that overhand right the whole time. But the first round he did a lot of linear stuff, he did a lot of kicks, he did a lot of weird things that, again, would make you distracted and not focus on that big punch.” (7:20 onwards)

For Superbon, this loss marks the end of a two-year reign as world champion. Back in October 2021, he beat kickboxing veteran Giorgio Petrosyan for the vacant belt, and then defeated Armenian rising star Marat Grigorian in his first world defense last March.

Riding high with an 8-fight win streak, the Thai superstar looked invincible. On Allazov’s part, 2023 marks a new era for the Belarusian phenom. He looks forward to the future with great anticipation knowing that his fans are happy to share the journey with him.

Superbon apologizes to disappointed Thai fans after losing to Chinga Allazov

Following Superbon’s recent fall to Chingiz Allazov, the 32-year-old superstar sent an apologetic message to his Thai fanbase on his Instagram.

After garnering a long string of success over the past few years, it was difficult to watch the Thai veteran leave the stadium empty-handed. His coaches and teammates, in particular, have watched him toil for long hours to prepare for his second world title defense.

Where did he go wrong? Only him and his teammates know the answer to that question. But his loyal fans have shown their countrymen nothing but love and support, even in the face of defeat.

The day after the fight, Singha Mawynn Muay Thai's representative took to Instagram to thank his followers on Instagram with the caption below:

“I'm sorry to disappoint Thai people and all my supporters with yesterday's fight. I'm very grateful for all the encouragement from all channels 🙏❤️ I'll pick up my mistakes and come back stronger 🙏👊🏽”
