#3. Martin Nguyen wants to earn another world title shot through "hard work”
Martin Nguyen is among ONE Championship’s most influential fighters and the promotion’s first-ever double-world champion wants nothing but to return to the top of the sport.
The former ONE featherweight and lightweight world champion starts his potential world title hunt when he takes on Brazilian fighter Leonardo Casotti at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video this Friday, US primetime.
Nguyen, in an interview with ONE Championship, revealed that he’s driven to get back to the top of the featherweight division and will do it through sheer hard work:
“Obviously, that shows through the hard work I've put in while trying to stay at the top. But me being able to perform at this level, and eventually, God willing, getting a title shot again. Then you know, all the hard work and dedication I put aside to be the best has come to play.”
Nguyen’s bout against Casotti, as well as the entire ONE Fight Night 7 card, emanates from the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium and is available live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.
#2. Fabricio Andrade inspired to take up Muay Thai after watching friend fight
Fate does have an uncanny way of impacting one’s life, and a trip to a local Muay Thai event practically started with a butterfly effect on Fabricio Andrade.
Before he captivated martial arts fans as one of ONE Championship’s best fighters, ‘Wonder Boy’ was just a rambunctious teen looking to assert himself on the streets.
It wasn't until he saw a friend of his compete in a Muay Thai event that truly started his love for the art of the eight limbs.
During ONE Championship’s pre-event interviews for ONE Fight Night 7, Andrade said:
“I started training because I wanted to fight in the street. A friend took me to train Muay Thai, and I enjoyed it. One day, I went to see him fight, and that was so cool for me. He was in the ring fighting, and everyone was looking at him. He was the center of attention, and that enchanted me.”
From that moment on, Andrade became a certified world beater, eventually becoming the no.1-ranked bantamweight contender in ONE Championship.
Andrade has another chance at gold when he faces John Lineker in their rematch for the ONE bantamweight world title at ONE Fight Night 7.
#1. Demetrious Johnson hopes he can show off his top game against BJJ black belt Adriano Moraes
Demetrious Johnson is regarded as one of the greatest mixed martial artists in history and part of that distinction was largely thanks to how he controlled his opponents through his grappling.
The reigning ONE flyweight world champion has never been shy in testing his Brazilian jiu-jitsu and he wants to do it in his trilogy bout against Adriano Moraes at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video.
Moraes, a BJJ specialist, is one of the most fearsome submission artists in ONE Championship with seven of his 11 wins coming by way of tap-out. Nevertheless, Johnson wants to guage how far he’s come and take ‘Mikinho’ on the ground.
Johnson, during his conversation with fightTIPS, said that he’ll try to get a submission win and retain his world title:
“We fight on the feet, we fight on my back, the only place I’ve not fought in both of our fights is me on top of him. I haven’t had the opportunity to show my top game against him, so if we get there I hope I get a submission. If not I would love to get another knockout or if we go to the decision, you know.”
Moraes and Johnson are 1-1 in their head-to-head matchups, with both fighters taking a spectacular knockout win over each other.
ONE Fight Night 10 is set for May 5 at the 1stBank Center in ONE Championship’s first on-site fight card in the United States. The event will be available live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.
