#3. “I'm definitely interested” - Bibiano Fernandes intends to compete in ONE’s submission grappling division
Bibiano Fernandes is one of the most dominant fighters to ever set foot inside the circle and it’s his Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) that’s made him such a menace in ONE Championship’s bantamweight division.
The Brazilian legend didn’t just have two lengthy reigns with the ONE bantamweight world title, but he also has five IBJJF world championships to his name.
Fernandes, in an interview with ONE Championship, said that he’s interested in competing in submission grappling matches:
“I'm interested in competing in submission grappling, but for that, I need to focus more on grappling, and I think that will happen. ONE is doing an excellent job. And the event is going to Brazil, it will be broadcast by the Combate channel, so I think it will do very good because Brazilians will understand how the Asian market works and they will know the true meaning of martial arts. But I'm definitely interested in fighting submission grappling at ONE Championship.”
‘The Flash’ owns five finishes in ONE Championship, and four of those wins came via submission. He could add to that tally when he faces Stephen Loman at ONE on Prime Video 4 this Friday, November 18, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
ONE on Prime Video 4 will be broadcast live on Amazon Prime Video and existing subscribers of the app can watch the card for free.
#2. “A lot of things will go off plan for him” - Kiamrian Abbasov says Christian Lee will beg his dad to "stop the fight”
Kiamrian Abbasov wants to make sure that Christian Lee’s debut in the welterweight division will be as inhospitable as possible.
Lee, the reigning ONE lightweight world champion, will challenge Abbasov for the ONE welterweight world title in the main event of ONE on Prime Video 4.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Abbasov issued a not-so-subtle threat to Lee. The welterweight king said that Lee’s game plan won’t work to the point that he’ll tell his coach and father Ken Lee to stop the match:
“A lot of things will go off plan for [Christian Lee]. Naturally, he will complain to his dad or coach; ‘Coach, big problem. Kiamrian Abbasov is a big problem. Please, stop the fight. Stop the fight.’”
Abbasov added that he doesn’t just plan on dominating Lee physically, he also intends to break the lightweight king down mentally
“I will whisper to his ear during the fight: ‘Stay in your lightweight division.’”
#1. Rodtang out to claim Muay Thai, kickboxing, and MMA world titles before moving up in weight
Rodtang Jitmuangnon isn’t content with just holding the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world championship.
While others around him aim to hold a second world title in another weight class, the Thai megastar wants to complete the trifecta in his division first.
In a conversation with ONE Championship, Rodtang said that he wants to add the kickboxing and MMA world titles to his collection before he climbs up to another weight class:
“Of course, I’d love to. But only after I will have achieved my goals - being a world champion in Muay Thai, kickboxing, and MMA. [Then] I will probably move to a higher division.”
If Rodtang wants to fulfill his plan, then he must go through an absolute gauntlet.
Ilias Ennahachi holds the ONE flyweight kickboxing world title while Demetrious Johnson, who has already submitted Rodtang in a mixed-rules bout, is the ONE flyweight world champion.
There have been several fighters who’ve held world titles in two sports but holding three world championships hasn’t been done before in ONE Championship.
Cleaning out the entire flyweight division, though, would first take a backseat. Rodtang is set to defend his ONE flyweight Muay Thai world title against Joseph Lasiri, the ONE strawweight Muay Thai world champion, at ONE on Prime Video 4.
