#3. Rodtang eyeing kickboxing gold if he gets past Joseph Lasiri at ONE on Prime Video 4
Rodtang Jitmuangnon is one of the longest-reigning active world champions in ONE Championship, and he wants to add one more world title to his collection after his next fight this week.
The reigning ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion will defend his belt against Joseph Lasiri, the reigning ONE strawweight Muay Thai world champion, at ONE on Prime Video 4 this Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The titanic striking match will stream live on Amazon Prime Video and existing subscribers in North America can watch the ONE Championship card for free.
Although Rodtang has a tough task ahead of him, he’s already looking ahead to what he wants to do after he’s done with Lasiri.
Rodtang, who’s held his belt since August 2019, said in an interview with ONE Championship that his next goal is to win the ONE flyweight kickboxing world title.
“Everyone has their own goal. I, myself, also have my greater challenge waiting for me. After I defend my gold this time, I'm planning to challenge for the kickboxing gold.”
Ilias Ennahachi currently owns the ONE flyweight kickboxing world title and he’s held the belt since August 2019, just a couple of weeks after Rodtang won Muay Thai gold.
#2. Khabib Nurmagomedov expects protege Saygid Izagakhmaev to get a world title shot if he beats Shinya Aoki
If his mentor is to be believed, then Saygid Izagakhmaev’s path to the world title isn’t that far off.
Russian legend Khabib Nurmagomedov, who’s been serving as a mentor to Izagakhmaev, believes that his student is set for a world title shot as early as the first half of 2023.
Izagakhmaev, the No.4-ranked lightweight contender, will face former ONE lightweight world champion Shinya Aoki at ONE 163 this Saturday, November 19, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The Aoki fight is considered to be Izagakhmaev’s toughest match to date, and Nurmagomedov expects that his protege’s next entry to the circle should be for the world title.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Nurmagomedov said:
“There’s a very good chance that in the first half of 2023, Saygid will fight for the world title because he already has two wins in the promotion, and he has a fight ahead of him against a very big star in the world of MMA, Shinya Aoki. If Saygid knocks him out or finishes him on the ground, I think he should have his next fight for the title.”
Izagakhmaev entered ONE Championship in January 2022 and is now 2-0 following dominant wins over James Nakashima and Zhang Lipeng.
#1. Fabricio Andrade vs. John Lineker rematch booked for ONE on Prime Video 7 in February 2023
The rivalry between Fabricio Andrade and John Lineker will reach another peak this 2023. Once again, there will be ONE Championship gold on the line.
Media outfit Combate first broke the story about the rematch for the ONE bantamweight world title that is set for ONE on Prime Video 7 in February 2023 at Jakarta Convention Center.
The first meeting between Andrade and Lineker at ONE on Prime Video 3 rightfully delivered on the hype that it promised. The two sluggers bludgeoned each other, but it was ‘Wonder Boy’ who seemed to get the better of the exchanges.
Andrade was inching closer to the win and the ONE bantamweight world title, but his charge was forced to a screeching halt after he landed an accidental knee strike to Lineker’s groin.
Lineker, who lost the strap before the match as a result of missing weight, exhausted the mandatory recovery time thus ending the match in a no-contest.
