Osamah Almarwai is excited to see how he matches up against reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci.
After becoming an IBJJF world champion in 2022, Yemen’s Osamah Almarwai hoped he would receive a call from ONE Championship. He got exactly that and much more when the promotion revealed that they wanted him to compete for a ONE world title in his promotional debut. At ONE Fight Night 10, Almwarwai will attempt to dethrone fan-favorite Mikey Musumeci in a submission showdown.
Ahead of his highly anticipated promotional debut, Almarwai spoke with ONE Championship to discuss his opponent and what he’s most looking forward to when they step inside the Circle next month:
“I’m very excited to see how his style matches my style,” Almarwai said. “Because both of us are training for each other. I know he’s studying me, and I’m studying him.”

Osamah Almarwai enters the bout as Yemen’s first black belt world champion with 22 career wins on the mat, but he’ll face a challenge like never before. Debuting in 2022, Mikey Musumeci rose to fame in a flash following his impressive submission victory over Japanese legend Masakazu Imanari at ONE 156 last April. That victory earned him the opportunity to become the first-ever ONE submission grappling world champion.
‘Darth Rigatoni’ capitalized on the opportunity, earning a dominant unanimous decision over Cleber Sousa to close out his 2023. He has since defended the title, defeating Mongolian standout Gantumur Bayanduuren at ONE Fight Night 6 in January. The Evolve MMA product will look to secure his fourth-straight win and second-straight title defense in front of a raucous North American crowd at the 1stBank Center in Colorado.
