Power Slap welterweight champion, Anthony Blackburn with Dana White.

Slap fighting is one of the most unpredictable and exciting combat sports events right now. Produced and organized by the UFC President, Dana White, Power Slap has been through enough controversies before getting accepted by the general audience. However, the promotion seems to be more accepted now and there are numerous live events happening each year.

For the last Power Slap live event, Da Crazy Hawaiian headlined against Van Herdeen at Power Slap 8 in June 2024 in Las Vegas, United States. After more than three months, the promotion is set to be back with another event called Power Slap 9: Da Crazy Hawaiian vs. Dumpling on October 24, 2024. This event will be held at the Space42 Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Power Slap rules

As with any sports event, Power Slap also has a set of rules and regulations to be followed by the contenders and organizers while indulging in the slap-fighting competition. The rules of the Power Slap are licensed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Let us take a closer look at the rules set for the Power Slap competition.

  • A coin will be tossed to decide who slaps first. The contender has 60 seconds(30 seconds to slap, and 30 seconds to recover) to complete his slap immediately after the coin toss. Following the first slap, there will be three rounds of each contender taking turns.
  • During the slap fight, contenders are supposed to stand across and face each other. The defender has to keep their shoulder square, chin up, and both hands behind their back.
  • Before the slap, the challenger has to stay in the designated zone, prepare, and also inform the referee about the hand he/she will use to slap the opponent. The challenger also needs to tell the referee about how many windups he/she will have.
  • The slap must be above the chin and below the eye, and the hand should not have full contact with the face.
  • While receiving a slap, the defender will be warned or penalized for flinching, or tucking shoulder, or chin.
  • Moreover, if the fight does not end in a finish, the judges will decide the winner based on the 10-point scorecard system for three rounds.
