ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci made a statement in his promotional debut, submitting Masakazu Imanari with a rear naked choke.

'Darth Rigatoni' surprised some with his domination over the Japanese grappling legend, but he has since proved that it was far from a fluke. Musumeci attained the inaugural ONE flyweight submission grappling world title in his very next match.

After securing the world title by beating Brazil's Cleber Sousa, the New Jersey native defeated Gantumur Bayanduuren in utterly commanding fashion.

Mikey Musumeci wants ‘to have an impact on the next generation’ in jiu-jitsu

The grappling superstar has brought a ton of positive attention to Brazilian jiu-jitsu since joining ONE Championship. Not only does Musumeci want to dominate his competition, but he hopes to impact the next generation as well.

Musumeci said in an interview with Fightlore:

"The deep reason why I compete in jiu-jitsu is, one, I love it. I’ve been doing it since I was four years old. That’s 22 years training jiu-jitsu. I don’t know, it just became a part of my life."

Musumeci added:

"I feel like why I continue to compete now is to have an impact on the next generation. I want people to watch me compete and then want to train jiu-jitsu as well."

ONE grapplers like Danielle Kelly, the Ruotolo brothers Tye and Kade, and Musumeci have been a shining light for the sport of submission grappling. Their talent truly makes people excited to watch submission grappling contests.

Musumeci is scheduled to make his second world title defense at ONE FIght Night 10 on Prime Video. He'll take on Yemen's Osamah Almarwai, who trains with the Ruotolo brothers at Atos and is ranked No. 1 in the IBJJF No-Gi black belt Rooster division.
