Russia's Shamil Gasanov made a statement in his ONE debut. He credits interim heavyweight champ Anatoly Malykhin for providing a few bonus tips prior to the bout.
'The Cobra' made quick work of the No.2-ranked featherweight contender Jae Woong Kim at ONE on Prime Video 3. Afterward, Gasanov told ONE about the advice that Malykhin gave him:
"Well, Anatoly Malykhin told me that a submission in round one could be my good chance to get a bonus – and that’s exactly how it all played out. It’s a great feeling to have a bonus."
The 27-year-old didn't even need a full round to lock in a rear-naked choke on Woong. His efforts rightfully earned him a $50,000 performance bonus from ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

Shamil Gasanov calls out top contenders
With a win like Gasanov's at ONE on Prime Video 3, it's almost guaranteed he'll face another one of the division's top names. 'The Cobra' channeled his inner Khamzat Chimaev:
“Tang Kai, Garry Tonon, everybody. Everybody I smash anywhere! Just give me five minutes and I’ll smash everyone.”
Newly-crowned champ Tang Kai might be a bit far-fetched for Gasanov's second ONE appearance, but Garry Tonon would be a great stylistic matchup. Tonon holds a 1-1 record in MMA since joining ONE in 2020:
"You see, I took a risk in my debut. I took the No.2 guy. Garry Tonon, I’ll give you one, I can do the grappling with him as well, it doesn't matter.”
Gasanov undoubtedly took a risk in his debut, but let's give credit to Woong for accepting a fight against someone making their debut. Let's also join Gasanov in crediting Malykhin for encouraging the newcomer to aim for a quick finish.
Be sure to look out for an announcement pertaining to Shamil Gasanov's next fight, as it promises to be a battle of top contenders.
