UFC Fight Night: Song v Gutierrez Weigh-in

Song Yadong is a Chinese MMA fighter who competes in the bantamweight division (135 lbs) of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) who was born on December 2, 1997, in Hulan District, Harbin, Heilongjiang, China. As a young boy, Song was raised by his single mother and was enrolled in a Sanda martial arts school when he was just nine years old. His journey into combat sports training began at the age of 13, and he entered the professional circuit before he turned 16.

In November 2017, ‘The Kung Fu Kid’ made his UFC debut on short notice against the very first Indian UFC fighter, Baharat Kandare, at UFC Fight Night: Bisping vs. Gastelum in Shanghai, China. Despite Kandare's attempts, Song secured a front choke in the fourth minute of the first round, clinching his first UFC victory and third win via submission.

Song Yadong's most recent bout took place on April 29, 2023, against Ricky Simon at UFC Fight Night: Song vs. Simon. The 25-year-old displayed an impressive combination of technical, speedy, and powerful striking throughout the fast-paced fight, achieving great success despite Simon's attempts at unsuccessful takedowns.

In the second round, an accidental clash of heads, unnoticed by Herb Dean, caused Simon to fall, and Yadong capitalized on it with follow-up punches, coming close to finishing the fight. Towards the end of the fourth round, Simon appeared to be saved by the bell after a potent left hand from Yadong knocked him down. Despite getting back on his feet after the bell, Simon seemed unsteady.

Entering the final round, possibly still affected, Simon endured a damaging body shot and a well-aimed left hand from Yadong. This series of strikes caused Simon to fold awkwardly, and as Yadong relentlessly pressed on, the referee intervened, ultimately declaring Yadong the winner via TKO in the fifth round.

As of today, Yadong is ranked #7 in the UFC bantamweight rankings and holds a respectable record of 21 wins, 7 losses, 1 draw, and 1 no-contest (20-7-1 (1NC)). Out of 13 fights in the UFC, Yadong has amassed a UFC record of 10 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw (10-2-1).
