Steve Erceg is not your average mixed martial artist. With a background that is a unique mix of Croatian and Italian, Erceg's journey to the UFC octagon began not with grappling or striking, but with the high-flying excitement of professional wrestling. Erceg began his professional fighting career in 2016, making his way through Australian companies such as Hex Fighting Series and Eternal MMA.

While Erceg's path to the UFC wasn't without its setbacks, his determination stayed unwavering. At first, trying to participate in Dana White's Contender Series and UFC Fight Night was delayed because of problems with his visa. However, Erceg's moment finally came in June 2023. After Matt Schnell got hurt late at UFC 289, Erceg stepped in and fought David Dvořák. In a stunning upset, Erceg dominated the fight, winning a unanimous decision victory and his first Performance of the Night bonus, announcing his arrival on the UFC stage with a bang.

Erceg continued his momentum throughout 2023, defeating Alessandro Costa by unanimous decision and earning another impressive knockout win over Matt Schnell in March 2024, once again garnering Performance of the Night honors. He lost his first UFC fight against Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 301 and against Kai Kara-France at UFC 305.
