Tammi Musumeci is ready to make a splash on the global stage with her first submission grappling match inside the Circle at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video.

Older sister to ‘Darth Rigatoni’ Mikey Musumeci, the American phenom has also been blessed with genetic excellence. She’s been dominating the jiu-jitsu scene since 2013, earning multiple IBJJF gold medals in gi and no-gi categories along the way.

Tammi recently won her fourth World No-Gi title in the featherweight division back in December, making her one of the most accomplished female grapplers of this generation. So, it was only a matter of time before she got signed under one of the largest combat sports promotions in the world.

For her first entry on the international stage, Tammi Musumeci is pitted against 2019 ADCC champion Bianca Basilio in a submission grappling match next Friday. Used to fighting under a traditional scoring system, Tammi says she’s relieved that submission grappling in ONE Championship is played in a different ruleset.

In an interview with ONE, the 29-year-old American explained:

“I’m better with submission-only rules because I feel like I’m always going for the sub. I do like it because I feel like there’s more room to work, and I can be a little bit more aggressive and not worry about advantages and different things like that.”

Tammi Musumeci says her life revolves around “trying to hit cool subs”

Undoubtedly, one of the contributing factors why Tammi Musumeci joined ONE Championship is because she’ll have the opportunity to finish her opponents.

One of the main reasons why jiu-jitsu has propelled itself onto mainstream sports media is because of the 10-minute submission grappling ruleset, which favors the athlete who are actively looking to finish the contest.

While the traditional rules of grappling may be too technical for casual fans to appreciate, stars like Mikey Musumeci, Danielle Kelly, and the Ruotolo brothers brought their energy and aggression to the forefront through ONE Championship’s submission grappling ruleset. Their exciting style reeled fans over and helped put more of a spotlight on the sport.

Tammi Musumeci, for her part, also wants to take part in history but also give herself the ability to challenge herself in a sport that she loves.

In the same interview, Tammi continued to say:

“I’m just going out there and try to hit cool subs. I like to live my life a certain way. I don’t have Instagram or social media. I’m not doing it for titles or anything, I’m just trying to hit cool stuff.”

ONE Fight Night 8 will be broadcast live and for free in North America via Prime Video.
