However, Werdum hadn't reckoned on Volkov's superior performance.
The fight initially went to plan for Werdum as he kept control of his younger opponent with his ground and pound game.
However, the longer the fight went, the more fatigued Werdum got and by round 3, it was clear he was going to need a miracle to stop Volkov. Volkov grew with each passing minute and landed a devastating knockout in the fourth round to seal the victory.
