Joe Rogan was visibly astonished when he learnt Elon Musk's Twitter acquisition. Rogan's exclamation came while he was recording an episode of his JRE (Joe Rogan Experience) podcast.
On episode #1809 of the JRE podcast in April 2022, Rogan hosted American actor, producer and stand-up comedian Jessica Kirson. The duo addressed various topics, including freedom of speech.
Rogan, a veteran stand-up comedian and entertainment industry professional, suggested that certain prominent social media platforms were allegedly complicit in large-scale censorship of people whose socio-political views didn't align with theirs.
The American podcast mogul alluded to billionaire Elon Musk's journey of potentially acquiring one of the world's biggest social media platforms (Twitter) and protecting free speech. Musk had been buying the company's shares in 2022, and speculation abounded that he'd eventually take over the company completely. Rogan stated:

"And this is where we find ourselves, with Elon Musk about to buy Twitter ... Apparently, it went down."
Upon learning from JRE producer Jamie Vernon that Musk had indeed initiated the $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, Rogan exclaimed and stated:
"Oh, sh*t! Oh sh*t! Elon Musk just bought Twitter. We got a movie star-cut type of a superhero. It's like a movie. Like, if you got a movie, and there was a guy who was like a hero in the movie, who happened to be a billionaire, does wild sh*t. Like, makes his own rockets, drills under the city, and electric cars, and buys Twitter."
Rogan then appeared to read out a headline concerning the Tesla and SpaceX boss agreeing to buy Twitter:
"Elon Musk agrees to buy Twitter in a 44 billion-dollar deal."

Joe Rogan heaped praise on Elon Musk for helping protect free speech
On the same episode of JRE, Joe Rogan went on to explain why Elon Musk's Twitter takeover was important. The longtime UFC color commentator indicated that Musk's acquisition and subsequent takeover of a global social media platform would help salvage netizens' freedom of speech:
"He believes that free speech is important, and not just important, vital, for a democracy, for a functioning democracy. And I agree with that." [*comments at the 1:26:54 of the podcast]
