Former Dakota FC heavyweight champion and former interim Bellator heavyweight title challenger Tim Johnson is one of the most prominent mixed martial artists in the division. After making his professional MMA debut in 2010, Johnson made his first appearance in the Ultimate Fighting Championship with a record of eight wins and only one loss in April 2015, against Shamil Abdurakhimov. Johnson secured a TKO win against Abdurakhimov in the first round and celebrated his promotional debut. His UFC stint was carried out from April 2015 to February 2018. Later in 2018, the American fighter signed a multi-fight contract with the Bellator MMA.

For his last outing, Tim Johnson faced Denis Goltsov in August 2024 at PFL 7 and lost the bout via a first-round TKO. The heavyweight bout was featured in the 2024 PFL heavyweight tournament in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. However, Johnson would be looking forward to facing the former Bellator light heavyweight champion, Vadim Nemkov in his next fight on January 2025 at PFL Champions Series 1 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, UAE.
