Tom Aspinall faced his only defeat in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and his third professional mixed martial defeat in UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Aspinall on July 23, 2022, while headlining the event in the main event along with Curtis Blaydes. He tore his medial collateral ligament in the opening moments of their bout, which led to Curtis Blaydes being declared the winner via first-round TKO (knee injury). Tom Aspinall returned a year later to the octagon with Marcin Tybura at UFC Fight Night: Aspinall vs. Tybura on July 22, 2023. He made quick work of Tybura by finishing him off in the first round via TKO.

The UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, was actually scheduled to headline the high-profile event against Stipe Miocic with his heavyweight belt on the line. After injuring himself in a sparring session, Jones was ruled out of UFC 295, and Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich were then added to the co-main event, while Jiri Prochazka vs. Alex Pereira fought in the main event of the night.
