UFC 200: Miesha Tate set to make her first title defence against Amanda Nunes

Bring It On!

UFC 200 just got bigger! After Ronda Rousey’s loss, it seemed like the UFC women’s Bantamweight title would not be held by any fighter for as long.

Since acquiring the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight title, Miesha Tate was expected to make her title defense. Contrary to the popular belief and Dana White’s claims, Tate will be making her very first beloved title defense against Amanda Nunes and not Ronda Rousey.

This was announced on Wednesday's episode of UFC Tonight that Miesha “Cupcake” Tate will fight Brazil's Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 at the newly opened T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The promotion's big pay-per-view is set for Saturday, July 9th.

Tate (18-5) had recently won a dramatic fifth round rear-naked choke win over Holly Holm at UFC 196. This was Holm’s first defeat in the last 90 seconds of their fight, stripping her of the title.

The Strikeforce champion had fought and was defeated by Ronda Rousey twice in her previous attempts to claim the bantamweight title. Tate was also contemplating retirement after losing her shot at the bantamweight title to Holly Holm, but UFC 196 was poetic justice for her, which helped her ink a new deal with UFC.

UFC 200 seems like poetic justice for Nunes.

Nunes (5-1) in the octagon has only lost to one of the best pound-for -pound fighters, Cat Zingano. Coming off from a history of fighting better opponents, will this be the day for Nunes or is Tate going home with the title?
