The two fighters used the first fight checking out each other, and they saw the weaknesses of the other fighter. Both of them were holding back and Arlovski did not go for a rush-in until the last secondsn were left. Unfortunately, Shamil was ready, and threw him back.

The second round saw them both working hard to clinch and take the other down. Arlovski baited Shamil several times, looking for an uppercut. He threw a kick but was caught and dropped. Shamil got dragged to the ground with both of them in a clinch on the ground. Shamil dragged Arlovski to the cage, and hit him with several shots to the face while he was getting up.

Arlovski looked better in the 2nd round, and was locked in the clinch again. This time it was Arlovski who took Shamil down through the clinch. With two takedowns for Arlovski in the round, the last round mattered the most. Abdurakhmov started the fight with a spinning elbow, and the two were soon in a clinch again. An eyepoke saw the fight paused, as Arlovski had his eye hurt.

They resumed, with both of them throwing shots, but again got caught with a groin shot with the fight stopping again. They resumed yet again, and throughout Arlovski seemed reluctant. The clock wound down, and the fight was over,

Result: Shamil Abdurakhimov defeated Andrei Arlovski via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)
