#6. Jacare Souza (26-6-0-1) vs. Jack Hermansson (19-4-0) (Middleweight)

A win for Jacare and a title shot seemed certain. A win for the #10 ranked Hermansson would take the Swedish fighter up the rankings.
The main event of the evening began with Hermansson deploying a leg kick strategy to maintain distance from the explosive Jacare. Souza looked for that big shot, but Hermansson was crisper in his striking as he connected with some big shots in the pocket. He almost got Souza in a choke, but Souza scrambled to get out of a precarious position in the first round. Hermansson got the first round as he was the more active fighter.

Hermansson continued his dominance as he got down Souza in the second round and worked on the Brazilian in full guard. Hermansson got earned some volume strikes from top position and kept chipping away on the scorecard. Her mixed it up well with punches to the body and head as Souza found it difficult to keep up with Hermansson's pressure. Souza couldn't get in any kind of offence from his back.
Souza seemed lost at the beginning of the third round as he looked flustered about the way the fight had gone thus far. The Brazilian got in the groove, though, as he stuffed Hermansson's takedown and began to find his range. Souza landed a few combinations and strikes to the body. Souza connected with some vicious body shots that visibly slowed Hermansson down. The body shots froze Hermansson, which opened him up for strikes to the head. Souza landed a big hook and continued to land some massive shots. Body, head, body, head, body, head - Souza had figured out a formula.
He had finally arrived and while couldn't finish Hermansson off, Souza easily got the third round in the kitty.
It was Hermansson who unleashed a barrage of shots in the fourth round. He swung wildly and connected with most of his untidy combinations. Hermansson was more mobile, as he used feints and had a more diverse range of strikes in the fourth round. Souza, though, wasn't ready to go down as he landed power shots of his in the exchange.
While Souza did threaten to finish off Hermansson in the 5th and final round, the Swedish held on as the fight went the distance.
Result: Jack Hermansson def. Jacare Souza via unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-47)
By beating a #4 ranked fighter, Hermansson has truly announced himself as the real deal in the 185lbs division. A an upset loss for Souza sends him back to the drawing board.
