UFC Fight Night 76 main event discarded after Joe Duffy suffers concussion, McGregor offers to step in

Joe Duffy -- The latest victim

In another unfortunate incident involving a scrapped fight, Irishman Joe Duffy was pulled out of the main event of Fight Night 76 after he suffered an untimely concussion due to a blow to the head while training.

The UFC issued this statement for the same and delved into the fine details of the injury:

"Having learned that Duffy received a strike to the head during training earlier this week, UFC sent him for medical tests in Ireland for precautionary purposes. The results determined that Duffy suffered a mild concussion and due to the proximity of the fight this Saturday UFC will not permit him to compete. The health and safety of UFC athletes will continue to be the top priority for the organization. As such, UFC has respected standard athletic commission regulations, which recommend a medical suspension from competition as a result of the concussion."

Duffy’s opponent Dustin Poirer reportedly turned down the option to fight another contender on a short notice of 3.5 days. Poirer has been putting in the goods in his training camp for 10 days preparing for the fight and requested the UFC top brass to schedule a main event fight featuring him for a future date.

This is not the only fight to have been scratched out of the event as the co-main event between Ben Rothwell vs Stripe Miocic also was scrapped due to an injury to Miocic. The combat crazy Irish fans would surely be distraught and would be asking for refunds as two headlining fights have been cancelled. Poirer posted a tweet on Twitter addressing the issue:

UFC Fight Night 76 will be held on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 24, 2015) inside 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland and the main event for the night would now feature a three-round fight between Irishman Paddy Holohan and Louis Smolka.

- When Ireland is involved in the picture you cannot imagine Conor McGregor missing out on the action. The Irish hero, in his peculiar style, offered to step in and face Dustin Poirer, who he has beaten before. He posted this tweet, that resonated his infamous persona:

It may not be a very smart decision on Conor’s part as he has bigger things to worry about which mainly includes his much-anticipated bout against Jose Aldo later in the year. The chances of UFC obliging to Conor’s proposal are highly unlikely, but you got to give it to ‘Notorious’ for never missing out on the opportunity to be in the news. His teammate, Paddy Holohan, would now be headlining Fight Night in Dublin.
