After making the jump to 170 pounds from the UFC’s talent stacked Lightweight division, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has been turning heads with his masterful performances in the UFC’s Welterweight division, and will now face another test in his new weight class against Jorge Masvidal in January, according to MMA Fighting.
The company is expected to announce the same shortly.
Cerrone is currently riding a four-fight winning streak in the UFC’s welterweight division, having finished all of his contests utilising his devastating combination of superior striking and grappling abilities. His most recent win comes from UFC 206 earlier this month, in which he destroyed ‘Immortal’ Matt Brown with a crushing head kick that would render Brown unconscious in the third round.

With a win over Masvidal, Cerrone would immediately propel himself into the UFC’s welterweight title picture.Masvidal is a longtime UFC veteran who is currently on a two-fight winning streak, coming off of a first-round finish over Jake Ellenberger at The Ultimate Fighter 24 Finale (TUF 24 Finale) earlier this month.
The devastating striker is looking to further himself in the UFC’s 170-pound rankings with what would be a massive win over ‘Cowboy’, hoping to eventually reach his ultimate goal of becoming a UFC champion.
As of late, both fighters have been impressive; and the striking match-up should be an interesting one to watch due to their elite backgrounds in the area. When it comes to the ground, however, the advantage almost always has to go to the Jackson-Wink product, Cerrone.
Cerrone and Masvidal will meet on the main card of UFC on FOX 23 from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado on January 28, 2016. The card will be headlined by a pivotal women’s Bantamweight bout between Valentina Shevchenko and Julianna Pena.
