Head coach of the first ever two weight world champion in UFC history, John Kavanagh, claims that Conor Mcgregor’s match up with the Underground King, Eddie Alvarez, at Madison Square Garden, was a complete mismatch.
Conor dominated Alvarez from start to finish on his feet, with the Irishman creating history in the second round.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani from MMA Hour, Kavanagh claimed Alvarez looked terrible going into the fight and lacked the combination of skill set to defeat or even come close to knocking Mcgregor out. However, Kavanagh claims the fight played out exactly as he hoped and imagined it would.

He also insisted that he was not at all surprised by the dominating performance that new UFC Lightweight Champion had displayed.
"He seems like a great guy," Kavanagh said of Alvarez.
"Solid fighter. But if we're just looking at skill sets, I felt going in ... that this was a massive mismatch. That's nothing to say about him as a person. Just skills wise. I really felt like this would look worse than the Marcus Brimage fight. But that style of fight. I just felt you have to bring a hell of a lot more than that to the plate to trouble which I think is the best fighter on the planet right now.
"Skillset wise, I just thought it was a massive mismatch, and I will humbly offer the evidence of the fight as something that warranted that," he added.
Kavanagh also claimed he doesn’t know what’s next for the Irishman claiming it would have to be a big fight to lure the Mcgregor back into the Octagon, with Woodley, Diaz, Nurmagomedov and Ferguson all possible next challengers for Conor Mcgregor.
