UFC News: Jon Jones chooses Anthony Johnson over Daniel Cormier as his next opponent

‘I’m the real champion.’

Jon Jones is one of the greatest fighters in combat sports history who has never been genuinely beaten inside the Octagon. Currently, he holds the Interim UFC light heavyweight belt and looks forward returning in action leaving behind a string of controversies that have held him back with suspensions.

He has apparently let go of an opportunity at a title unification bout with UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, due to his recent actions. Now that it appears his suspension might soon be over, he stated via Twitter that he would rather lock horns with Anthony Johnson than Daniel Cormier.

According to Bjpenn.com, a fan on Twitter had asked him about his preference on his next opponent, and Jones made his pick:

The former pound for pound king had fought Cormier back in UFC 182 dominating him for four out of five rounds. Later, he was scheduled to defend his title against ‘Rumble’ Johnson but that was scratched out due to the controversial hit-and-run accident that Jones was involved in.

He was forcefully stripped of his title due to his involvement in the case. Soon DC replaced Jones and faced Johnson for the vacant UFC light heavyweight title and won via submission going into the third round.

Once the mists of controversies had cleared, Jones was rescheduled to fight Cormier at UFC 197 but DC pulled out citing a leg injury. As a result, Jones was forced to fight Ovince St-Preux for the interim title. The former champion outworked St-Preux to become a champion for the second time.

The light heavyweight title will be on the line at UFC 206 when Cormier battles Johnson in a rematch at Toronto, Canada.

Jones, on the other hand, has been suspended for testing positive for two banned substance and is currently still under suspension. According to his lawyer, they have found the source of the banned substance. The Lawyer has also stated that Jones’ comeback is not too far.
