While Diaz choked out McGregor in their first encounter, the Notorious one bested Diaz by Majority Decision at UFC 202.
The heart of the matter
Nate Diaz hasn’t competed in professional MMA after his UFC 202 loss in August of 2016 at the hands of Conor McGregor.
Taking to Instagram this past Tuesday, Diaz stated that he’s sick of waiting around.
Furthermore, Diaz taunted his UFC rivals; accusing them of making the fight game boring, while also warning them to be prepared as he plans to return between May and June this year. Fans can read his post below—
What’s next?
Nate Diaz and UFC President Dana White are presently in negotiations for getting the former—who refers to himself as ‘The Real Champ’—a fight with a top UFC Lightweight contender.
The vast majority of MMA experts believe that the biggest fight the UFC could make right now is a trilogy bout between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.
Author’s take
Honestly speaking, the UFC’s Lightweight waters are muddied right now. With Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson facing Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223, Conor McGregor’s shadow looms large over the entire matchup.
Besides, would it be justified to book Nate Diaz into a top-tier fight, let alone a UFC Championship bout, after him being on the shelf since August of 2016? Diaz is likely to have a tough time with ring rust and other factors, especially if he finds himself booked with a top-5 155-pounder upon his return.
