UFC News: Nate Diaz receives fine and community service from NSAC

After his water bottle war with McGregor, Diaz has been slapped with a fine and community service time.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has finally reached a verdict regarding Nate Diaz’s punishment for his antics at the UFC 202 pre-fight press conference, and the punishment is not as bad as it could have been.

McGregor and Diaz were involved in a verbal battle at a Vegas hotel ballroom after Nate decided to get up and leave in the middle of the press conference as the two men shouted at one another from across the room.

This would lead to a member of Diaz’s team eventually throwing a water bottle at ‘The Notorious One’ from across the room, sparking McGregor to throw some right back at the Scrap Pack.

This has resulted in the NSAC levying a 2.5% fine on Diaz’s full $2 million UFC 202 fight purse, rounding out to a hefty tag of $50,000. He was also slapped with 50 hours of community service.

Diaz’s punishment is very similar to the one McGregor was handed, as the Irishman was also fined 2.5% of his $3 million fight purse ($75,000), as well as the 50 hours of community service.

In addition to that, however, McGregor was also forced to participate in a public service announcement, that announcement would also be worth $75,000. Due to this McGregor has refused to pay the $75,000 fine and has filed a notice of judicial review with the Clark County civil court.

As for now Diaz is allowed to compete in any combat sports activity outside of the state of Nevada and will be allowed to compete in ‘Sin City’ once his fine is paid in full.
