UFC strawweight champion, Weili Zhang is set to make her first title defense when she takes on former strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248 on 7th March.
According to MMA Fighting, verbal agreements have been made for the fight and an official announcement is expected in the coming weeks. UFC have reportedly zeroed in on the 7th March card for the title clash but the location and the venue have not been decided as yet.
Zhang KO'd Jessica Andrade in the very first round of their main-event clash at UFC Fight Night 157 to capture the strawweight title in front of her home-town crowd in China, becoming the first Chinese champion in UFC history.
Now Zhang must concentrate on defending her belt against the longest-reigning strawweight champion, Jedrzejczyk, who is coming off a hugely dominant victory against 'The Karate Hottie' Michelle Waterson. Her last defeat came in a title bout against the reigning UFC flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko, back in December 2018.
Jedrzejczyk became the #1 contender after beating Waterson in their epic five-round battle back in October. When Jedrzejczyk was the champion, she successfully defended the strawweight title an unprecedented five times, and she will be looking to capture her lost gold once again as she gears up to fight Zhang.
