The running knee that finished Yoel Romero’s encounter against Chris Weidman at UFC 205 was a spectacular finish to an intense bout.
On the MMA Hour, Romero explained that the plan for the bout worked out perfectly. Weidman, the former middleweight champion, won the first round convincingly, but Romero says that it was just a plan to bait the wrestler. Here’s what he said:
"That's exactly how we planned out the fight, how we thought the fight would go. That's exactly how the coach and I had planned," Romero said. "Get him some food so he'd get happy with that food, and as soon as he comes for seconds, we're going to hit him with the knee."

The historic bout at UFC 205 saw Romero continue his tradition of controversial antics during the bout. Versus Weidman, it was an issue with being too wet.
He admitted to using plain water instead of ice to cool off between rounds.
"It's up to the trainers and the cornermen to dry me off. I was ready to fight. But once again the ref decided there was too much water, and he was asking for the towel. It's up to my trainers to wipe me off correctly, it just, it is what it is.”
Romero also called out Weidman for poking him in the eye, an illegal move in the UFC.
"He put his finger in my eye and no one is criticising that. If I would have put my finger in his eye, it would be a big deal. ‘Yoelito put his finger in my eye, he's cheating, When he put his finger in my eye, and they showed on camera, he put his finger in my eye, the people were saying ‘ooooh,' But I understand when you fight, things like this happen,” he quipped.
Yoel "Soldier of God" Romero has now won eight straight matches to set himself up as a contender to Michael Bisping’s UFC Middleweight Title.
