Valentina Shevchenko attempted to defend her flyweight title for the eighth time when she took on Alexa Grasso in the main-event at UFC 285.
A +600 underdog on some cards, Grasso had a huge moment in the opening frame as she visibly stung the champ with a 1-2, followed by a left hook. 'Bullet' was able to recover quickly enough and answered back with some body kicks. While the Mexican contender landed a takedown in the final seconds of the round, Shevchenko quickly got back up on her feet and returned the favor.
'Bullet' landed a takedown early in the second round and displayed her usual dominance on the ground, spending most of it top control. While Grasso impressively managed to regain footing, she was unable to land anything significant before being taken down for a second time in the closing seconds of the round.
Grasso's output considerably dwindled in round three as she seemingly became wary of the takedowns. Regardless, Shevchenko managed to land a takedown halfway through the round and continued to control her opponent before referee Jason Herzog ordered them back up to their feet, citing inaction.

Grasso managed to stuff both of Shevchenko's takedown attempts in round four before completely turning the tables. 'Bullet' missed big with a spinning back kick, allowing Grasso to smoothly take her back.
Alexa Grasso locked in a rear-naked choke that forced a tap from Valentina Shevchenko at 04:34 of round four. The Mexican pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the history of UFC title fights to be crowned the new UFC women's flyweight champ.
Alexa Grasso makes history with victory over Valentina Shevchenko
Alexa Grasso's UFC 285 win over Valentina Shevchenko made her the third Mexican UFC champ, after Brandon Moreno and Yair Rodriguez. She also became the second-ever undisputed Mexican UFC champ in history and the first-ever female to achieve the feat.
Apart from this, Grasso also made history by handing Shevchenko the first submission loss of her career. 'Bullet' has suffered two of her three previous losses against Amanda Nunes via decision, while the first one came outside the UFC against Liz Carmouche back in 2010.
Meanwhile, Grasso extended her winning streak to five, which now includes two finishes via rear-naked choke. The newly crowned flyweight champion also claims to have practiced the exact move that she used to dethrone Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 285.
