As Islam Makhachev prepares for his highly anticipated lightweight title rematch with Arman Tsarukyan, a humorous moment from his early days with Khabib Nurmagomedov and the team has come to light.

In the lighthearted video shared on Instagram by combat sports content creator Emiel Sardarean, Khabib and his team members are seen mischievously taking fan-sent gifts meant for Makhachev. The footage captures Makhachev's reaction upon discovering the 'theft,' as he rushed to the gym’s counter and jokingly exclaimed:

“Somebody take my gift. Call police. This is not good, because those are my glasses. [Khabib] open, he take it.”

Makhachev’s rise to UFC stardom has been guided by Khabib, who retired undefeated as one of the greatest fighters of all time.

Now reigning as the UFC lightweight champion and riding a 14-fight winning streak, Makhachev has solidified his status as a dominant force in the sport. Makhachev’s evolution from a promising prospect to a pound-for-pound great has been nothing short of extraordinary.

With seven of his last eight wins coming via stoppage, including back-to-back victories over Alexander Volkanovski, Makhachev has silenced critics and proven his versatility in all areas of the sport.

Islam Makhachev weighs in on potential move to welterweight

Islam Makhachev faces a challenging crossroads as he prepares for his upcoming title defense against Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 311. Should he secure a victory, Makhachev’s pool of viable challengers at 155 pounds may shrink, prompting speculation about a potential move to welterweight.

However, Makhachev expressed hesitation about facing certain fighters in the division. When asked about the possibility of fighting Belal Muhammad or Shavkat Rakhmonov, Makhachev responded, saying:

“Well, I know both guys. These are not the fights I would like… Both are world-class fighters… they’re going to have a good fight that I’m interested to see.”

Makhachev’s reluctance stems from a mix of personal loyalty and camp traditions. Belal Muhammad, an honorary member of the Dagestani camp, has trained extensively with Makhachev’s team, including preparation for his UFC 304 title fight against Leon Edwards.
