In just one fight, Muay Thai phenom Tawanchai proved he was a different breed of athlete.

Before becoming the new face of the featherweight division, 23-year-old Tawanchai PK.Saenchai already had an impressive list of achievements in Muay Thai. He won multiple ‘fighter of the year’ awards from prestigious Muay Thai organizations, including the Lumpinee Fighter of the Year award in 2018.

Irish WBC Muay Thai world champion, ‘Clubber’ Sean Clancy knew all about Tawanchai’s exceptional background before the Thai prodigy made his ONE debut. Yet, he remained unfazed by the star’s elite experience.

Little did he know that Muay Thai phenom was going to send him deep into the shadow realm with a vicious head kick KO in the third round.

The bantamweight Muay Thai bout at ONE: Dangal began with Clancy staying within Tawanchai’s range. Instead of moving forward laterally, Clancy quickly became his opponent’s punching bag.

The Pattaya native picked him apart very patiently, throwing everything he had with intent. Not wasting any shots, the youngster drew blood early in the first round, cracking Clancy’s face with a nasty flying elbow.

It became clear that ‘Clubber’ was out of his depth. To his credit, though, he continued to push forward but it ultimately led to his early demise. Tawanchai timed a beautiful left high kick to perfection, sending the Irishman flying backwards onto the canvas to end the bout in round three.

Tawanchai PK. Saenchai intends to improve his Muay Thai record with numerous world title defenses

Tawanchai PK.Saenchai said he intends to improve his Muay Thai record by surpassing Petchmorakot Petchyindee’s 965-day reign.

The Thai superstar is headed towards his first world title defense 5 months after claiming the ONE featherweight Muay Thai world title from the former long-reigning titleholder last September at ONE 163.

This March at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, he faces a new opponent in Jamal Yusupov, a former three-time Russian kickboxing champion who has a vast amount of experience competing under the Muay Thai rulset.

Despite competing against another strong opponent, Tawanchai is just focused on fulfilling his promise of surpassing Petchmorakot’s 965-day reign in the featherweight division.

At the post-fight interview at ONE 163, he said:

“As for Petchmorakot’s record, I will try to beat his record and keep this belt with me even if any of the challengers come to take this belt, I will keep this belt.”
