Colby Covington is a former one-time interim UFC welterweight champion. He is also No. 6 ranked fighter as of December 2024, in the welterweight division in the UFC. The “super - villain” of the UFC had his beginnings as a wrestler before he decided to switch to mixed martial arts. His career at the UFC began in 2014 at UFC Fighty Night: Bisping vs. Le on August 23, 2014, where he faced and defeated Anying Wang via KO/TKO through punches in Round 1.

Covington’s wrestling and grappling coupled with his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu have helped him to become a fab favorite inside the Octagon, despite his unconventional ways. He has already earned Fight of the Night twice in his UFC career so far against Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal. Covington has already established a MMA record of 17-4-0 in his career as of December 2024.

Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal Altercation

Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal were involved in a fight on March 22, 2022, outside of a Miami Beach steakhouse. As per the incident, Covington was at the restaurant with the Nelk Boys. Suddenly, Jorge Masvidal arrived out of nowhere and assaulted him when he was leaving the restaurant. Incidentally, this assault was mostly the result of some comments that Covington had earlier made about Masvidal’s relationship with his children.

The two former friends turned rivals had also faced each other at UFC 272: Covington vs. Masvidal on March 5, 2022, and Covington came out the winner. The “Super villain” of UFC previously called himself the “King of Miami,” which was not well-liked by Masvidal, a native of Miami. However, it was his calling Masvidal a “deadbeat dad” that culminated the incident between the two.

During the assault, Masvidal sucker punched Covington and kept beating him until he lost a teeth and got his Rolex watch worth $90,000 damaged. Resultantly, Masvidal was arrested but pleaded not guilty to the charges against him . He was also ordered to stay at least 25 feet away from Covington while the case continued. Colby Covington later took to social media to express his disappointment with the behaviour that “Gamebred” put up during the assault. Masvidal in his reply stated that if someone talks trash about something, they better have the ability to back it up and that is the way it works in Miami. The bad blood between the former friends still exists and they have even involved themselves in a heated exchange of words even after their war.
