Santiago Ponzinibbio is an Argentine professional mixed martial artist who competes in the Welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He was born on September 26, 1986. Ponzinibbio, with a record of 29-8 in mixed martial arts, was previously ranked among the top 10 welterweights in the world following his knockout win over Neil Magny in November 2018. However, he has not been able to compete for the next two years due to various health issues, including a positive COVID-19 test.

Santiago Ponzinibbio suffered from an infection in his body which then spread to his blood. He was diagnosed with two types of bacterial infections, one of which was pseudomonas, a more complicated bacteria frequently found in water and certain plant seeds. After spending eight days in the hospital, he was discharged. However, he later returned to the hospital after experiencing weight loss and developing a 103-degree fever. He stayed in the hospital for another 10 days but couldn't get his fever under control, and had to switch to different medications. After being released, he continued treatment for two more months with the help of a PICC line and medication.

Santiago Ponzinibbio took a two-year hiatus from mixed martial arts to recover from injuries. He made a comeback in 2021, but unfortunately, he suffered a knockout loss in his first fight back against Li Jingliang. Ponzinibbio has suffered 5 losses and 2 victories since his return in 2021.

Ponzinibbio is now scheduled to face Carlston Harris at UFC Fight Night: Dern vs. Ribas 2 on January 11, 2025.
